Hi Families,
It has been an extremely busy few weeks here in Portable 1. Here’s a little snippet of what we have been up to:
Math
- Practicing our 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s multiplication and division facts. I have really been stressing to the kids that if a student knows a multiplication fact, they will be able to quickly find the related division equation!
- Noticing patterns in the multiplication chart.
- Lots of talk about fact families.
- Spiral review of addition and subtraction within 1,000.
- Began using Moby Max.
Cursive:
- We have practiced letters c, a, d, g, h, t, p, and e.
Reading:
- Retelling our stories
- Summarizing what we have read so far
- Giving ourselves comprehension checks
- Making predictions, not guesses, about what will will happen next in our stories
Writing:
- Working on developing personal narratives: Writing with a storyteller’s voice.
- Partner writing.
- Sharing our work as authors during Author’s Chair on Friday.
Science:
- Sound is a form of energy created by vibrations.
- Experiments and group work with tuning forks, nails, aluminum foil, string and rulers in order to investigate how sound travels.
- Scientific vocabulary and definitions.
- How to record our scientific observations properly.
Social Studies:
- Scholastic Weekly News
- Scholastic Science Spin
Special Events:
- Cheetah Cheers Assembly: We won the Golden Trash Can Award for cleanest room in September!
- A free Dictionary for each student from the Valley Grange!
- Art Docent with Mrs. Sarah Harper.
- Walk-A-Thon: A wonderful time! Sunny weather and happy kids and staff walking and running.
- Gem Party! We watched The Secret Life of Pets as a reward for filling our gem jar!
